For project 2 we were tasked with picking three “Favorite Meal” essays our peers wrote and to compare them to Michael Pollan’s essay “Out of the Kitchen, Onto the Couch”. I chose Kayla Lowe’s “Stuffed Shells”, Connor Sirios’ “Chocolate Chip Cookies”, and Madelyn Hayes’“Christmas, Family, and Meatball Soup” to tie back to Pollan. I was surprised to find that although their favorite foods varied, they all had the same meaning to them. Food brings Lowe, Hayes, and Sirios the feeling of togetherness and passes on a family tradition. Pollan may think that the tradition of cooking will soon fade but after reading my peer’s favorite food essays it seems nothing could stop them from creating their favorite dishes.
